The Origins of the “Cheezborger”

There was no food served in the original tavern on Madison Street, but on the day the Goat opens on Hubbard Street its most popular menu item is one that is referred to as a “double-hamburger-on-toasted-roll-with-chopped-onions-and-relish”

But with Sam working the grill, the place begins to echo with his distinctive pitch to customer walking down the stairs: “Cheezborger, Cheezborger! No fries, chips! No Pepsi, Coke!”

Lollapalooza Bands’ Favorite Chicago Restaurants

“So, coming to Chicago last night, obviously I headed to the Billy Goat Tavern. The original one. I haven’t been back here since the curse was lifted, so I was curious to see if the vibe of the place had altered in any way. Of course it hadn’t. You’d need a neutron bomb to shake the vibe of a place like that.” – Franz Ferdinand
