71 Years Ago Today…

Today marks 71 years since Murphy the Billy Goat was denied access to the Cubs game. The Curse of the Billy Goat grows stronger with every year that goes by. Prior to the curse, the Cubs had 51 winning seasons, won the pennant 16 times and won 2 World Series. Since the Curse, the Cubs have had only 18 winning seasons and have not won a World Series or pennant. The Curse goes on until the goat gets in! www.billygoattavern.com/legend/curse/

Reverse The Curse Ceremony – Thursday 10/6

In Greece the strongest goat of the herd wears a bell that is called a trokania. We have the original trokania that Billy had. This Thursday at Billy Goat on Michigan Ave from 5:30 – 8:30. we will have a ceremony to present the trokania to this new goat and a little ceremony to reverse the curse. And if the Cubs ask us to go to the stadium we will, with the goat wearing the trokania!

Billy’s Rainbow Goats

Many people ask about the rainbow goats painted on the walls outside of The Goat. They were painted in 1970 by Sachio Yamashita, known as Sachi. He appealed to Billy Goat Sianis “The top of Michigan Avenue is the most beautiful street in the world. But every day I walk down here with all this filth and all the pigeons and it is most depressing.” Billy made a deal with Sachi. Every day after Sachi and his helpers finish their work, beer and borgers are free! Unfortunately Billy Goat Sianis passed away on October 22, 1970 just days before the painting were complete.

The Ghost of Mike Royko

“I miss Mike very much,” Sam says in May 2000. “I see Mike three, four times. Matter of fact, I see him three days ago. Mike come by here. It was when he was dead. I ask him if he remembers when I said, ‘Mike, if anything ever happen to me, I want you to keep the Billy Goat name alive.’ And he nods his head and I tell him, ‘Now that you are gone I am going to keep your name alive. I’m going to make sure your name will live forever.'”
